Zero Net Carbon Collaborative for Existing & Historic Buildings: Stepping Up to Climate Accord Targets in North America

MTBA’s Mark Thompson Brandt and his Co-Chairs at the Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) Technical Committee on Sustainable Preservation (TC-SP) commenced an initiative at APT’s 49th annual conference last October in Ottawa. At the “Zero Net Carbon Collaboration Reception” leaders from the American Institute of Architects, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Architecture 2030, and ICOMOS joined the APT TC-SP in expressing desire to form a strategic alliance of like-minded organizations to help combat carbon emissions. This will be done through coordinated development of resources and best practices for accelerating the Zero Net Carbon (ZNC) rehabilitation of existing and historic buildings and places.
